Concrete Inspection
In many situations, inspection of concrete structure using traditional non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as acoustic emission and radiography (x-ray) is not practical. The processes can be time-consuming to complete, require evacuation of the area being tested, and demand considerable set-up time before the inspection can even begin. All of these factors can be unappealing to customers who need a fast, reliable, unobtrusive method.
GPR quickly and accurately locates rebar, tension cables, plastic conduits and voids to a depth of 40-50cm in existing concrete structures (e.g., tunnels, walls, floors, slabs, decks, balconies and garages). In addition, it is used to detect and map the relative condition of concrete so that rehab projects can be prioritized and planned more effectively. For QA on new concrete structures, radar is used to inspect and measure slab thickness.
